Put a fresh spin on your designs with multiple colors and finishes!
Siser® HTV provides all kinds of options for you to layer, however not ALL heat transfer vinyl can be layered. If you want to check if your HTV can be layered, simply go to www.siser.com, select the product from the drop down menu, then select “technical data” and check if it “Can be layered” or not.
When trimming your cut design away from the sheet or roll of HTV it’s important to cut closely for a few reasons:
Cut back on production time by cutting your carriers closely. Overlapping HTV and carriers will adhere to each other instead of the garment, but if they’re trimmed then you can avoid overlapping and apply multiple colors at one time.
If you’re getting carrier marks consistently, check out tip #3. If they’re still an issue, lower your pressure
You know how in baking something can be under done, just right, or baked to the point of burning? Well applying HTV is kind of like baking. You don’t want to over or under do it since peeling can be caused by both a too short press and too long. When pressing multiple layers its important to remember that the first layer will receive the additional heat of each press afterwards. Say you pressed a 4 color design for the recommended 15 seconds for each layer. The first layer would end up with a total pressing time of ONE MINUTE. That is one burnt cookie.
Use the 15 seconds only for the LAST/TOP layer so to finally fix the design.
All presses should be done with a cover sheet of some kind. Check out tip #3 for the reason why!
Over baking HTV leads to shrinking HTV! Short presses reduce the amount of shrinking from HTV and your garment. This is especially important for maintaining proper registration and alignment of your designs.
Siser offers non stick, reusable cover sheets, but if you don’t have one of those you can use parchment paper, multipurpose paper, or a pressing cloth like a clean piece of 100% cotton. The benefit of a cover sheet is that it:
Previously applied heat transfer vinyl without a carrier sheet (like the first layer of a multi-color design) can melt or leave adhesive residue on the pressing platen. The residue on the platen may not be noticeable, but the next press without a cover sheet could adhere a random piece of gunk to the garment. A cover sheet keeps everything clean. Cover sheets also offer a layer of heat protection to prevent heat sensitive items from scorching.
Remember those pesky carrier marks we talked about in tip #1? Well they’re easily dealt with if you use this trick. Press the HTV with the carrier for 1-5 seconds, peel the carrier according to the product, then place a cover sheet on top and press for the remaining time. Peeling the carrier early prevents it from embedding in the bottom layer, and pressing with the cover sheet evens out any marks.
Glitter is the star of the show, so it’s never on the bottom! It might also have something to do with durability… Ok fine, it’s all about durability. The textured surface of Glitter does not provide an applicable area for HTV, It can cause the material to peel off after washing. So if you want to use multiple kinds of HTV, ensure your design leaves Glitter only on top. This rule also applies to Holographic.
Take care of your work and wait 24 hours before the first wash. The glue needs time to set and become washing and abrasion resistant.
Check the recommended washing temperature of each one of the products you used and proceed with the lowest suggested one. For example, if you combined PS Electric (suggested washing temperature 60°) and Glitter (suggested washing temperature 40°), you’ll need to set your washing machine to max 40° cycle.

Just like any other machine, the heat press requires some maintenance to run efficiently. Follow these tips* to extend the lifespan of your investment and get optimal performance:
Keep working area clean and dust-free. Dust can be detrimental, especilly for electrical components. Use an air duster to clean the electrical components on a regular basis.
Lubricate all the wear points (pistons and rods) with high-temperture lithium grease. If you put in too much grease, wipe off the excess. Failing to lubricate your machine regular will cause the pivot joints to dry out, and be subject to friction and wear. We recommend do it more than once a year.
A well-functioning platen, is a clean platen! Use a damp, soft cloth to wipe your platen with iron cleaner, alcohol, mineral spirits. Before you start cleaning, make sure to power off your machine.
Important Note: Never use anything rough to scrub off the residue in your upper platen. This can damage the Teflon coating.
Use the cord that comes with your heat press, other cords may fit but are unable to carry the necessary voltage. To avoid fire and other safety issues do not put cords on or near hot surfaces.
To protect the silicone pad on the lower platen, use teflon. Teflon comes in sheets, covers or pillows. Teflon sheets can be placed on the top of your garments to prevent them from sticking to the upper platen. Teflon covers act like a mattress cover and safeguard the rubber pad. Teflon pillows help distribute pressure evenly when the item has irregular surfaces, such as buttons, collars, or zippers. Teflon should be replaced, when it is ripped, cracked or torn.
Heat is essential for proper application. Once in a while check the heating platen using a machine test kit. Set the temperature and check the results.
In general, the manual will provide guidelines on how to use the machine correctly. It can also offer tips on how to care for the machine, as it may require maintenance procedures that are specific to that particular model.
*These maintenance techniques may not fully prevent your heat press from becoming inoperative.

Placing and sizing HTV can be tough but nailing your palcement and size can make your design look professional and more expensive.
Here are some guidelines on how to place and size Siser HTV:
Create a center line and measure down 5 cm from the neckline along the vertical crease.
Suggested Sizes: 20×20 cm
TIP: The easiest and fastest way to find the center of a shirt is to fold the t-shirt in half lengthwise and iron/press the crease.
Center the design in the upper chest area, and place it above the armpit line.
Suggested Sizes: 10×25 cm
Draw two imaginary lines. The vertical line will start just off the side of the collar. The horizontal line will start at the armpit seam. Where these two lines meet is where the design should be placed.
Suggested Sizes: 9×9 cm
TIP: Do not to place the design too far to the left (or right) as it may end up in the armpit area.
Take the left (or right) end of the collar as a reference to center the design, then experimenting with different heights. This placement is ideal for vertical graphics consisting of letters.
Suggested Sizes: 30×10 cm
TIP: Vertical postioning depends on the size of the design. Adjust as needed.
Center the design on the sleeve area. If the design is wide, make sure the design is aligned horizontally.
Suggested Sizes: 8,5×8,5 cm
TIP: To prevent seams from creating thickness, use a heat transfer pillow.
Place the design using the central vertical fold as a reference. Measure down 4 cm from the center of the neckline.
Suggested Sizes: 10×10 cm
TIP: Leave the collar out the transfer area
These are guidelines placements for adult t-shirts. All placements depend on the size of each design.
The size of your design is pretty important. Getting the size of your design right can save you a lot of time and money. It’s always useful to:
*Don’t let your eyes fool you. Once worn, the t-shirt has dimensions and depth
*Double check your sizing before application
*Keep a ruler handy

When it comes to heat transfer vinyl (HTV), one of the most frequently asked questions is “how do I wash and dry my decorated t-shirt the right way?”.
We have put together this quick guide for washing, drying, and caring your Siser HTV decorated garments.
The thermoadhesive layer needs time to crystallize and sink down into the fabric fibers. If you wash and dry too soon, there’s a good chance the HTV could peel or crack.
The harsh temperature and solvent based solutions that are used during dry clean may damage the HTV.
* From our laboratory tests, the following materials are suitable for dry cleaning:
– P.S. Film
– P.S. Electric
– P.S. Extra
– Glitter
– Sparkle
– Hi-5
Protect the decoration by turning the garment insidee down. While washing and drying clothes, they rub against each other (especially if they have zippers or buttons); this friction can cause abrasions or even the peel from the fabric.
Before washing, it is very important to check the recommended temperature in the product sheet. High temperatures can weaken the adhesive or cause abrasion of the heat transfer vinyl.
Any detergent that promises to “Withen”, “Fight Stains”, or that contains any other kind of special additive, is not a mild detergent. These additives, along with bleach, can damage the decoration.
Just like when washing, it is essential to check in the product sheet if the material you are using is suitable for dry cleaning, and what is the recommended program. Hang drying is still the safest, albeit slowest, way to dry your decorated garment.
The heat of the iron could melt the material, as well as ruin the garment. Before ironing on the decoration, make sure to cover it with parchment paper or a cotton cloth and set the iron to low temperature (no steam). Or iron the t-shirt inside out.
